3rd Death Anniversary of Jamaat Leader Delwar Hossain Sayeedi Observed Today

Today marks the third death anniversary of Delwar Hossain Sayeedi, prominent Islamic orator and former Nayeb-e-Ameer of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami.

Sayeedi passed away on August 14, 2023, at the age of 83 while undergoing treatment at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) in Dhaka following a cardiac arrest.

Born in Pirojpur in 1940, Sayeedi gained widespread recognition across the Muslim world as a Quranic scholar starting in the late 1960s. He joined Jamaat-e-Islami in 1979 and was elected Member of Parliament from the Pirojpur-1 constituency in both the 1996 and 2001 general elections.

In 2013, the International Crimes Tribunal sentenced him to death for crimes against humanity during the 1971 Liberation War, a sentence later commuted to life imprisonment by the Supreme Court Appellate Division in 2014. He was serving his sentence at Kashimpur High Security Central Jail prior to his hospitalization.
