Singapore’s Outgoing Charge d’Affaires Pays Courtesy Call on Bangladesh Home Minister

Singapore’s outgoing Charge d’Affaires to Bangladesh, Mitchell Lee, paid a courtesy call on Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed at the Ministry of Home Affairs in the Secretariat on Sunday.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed the long-standing friendly relations between Bangladesh and Singapore, with a particular focus on enhancing the capacity of the Bangladesh Police, modernizing airport and land port border security, technology transfer, and expanding economic and trade cooperation. They also exchanged views on Singapore’s political history.

The Singaporean representative expressed his country’s interest in supporting Bangladesh’s border and immigration security through the use of advanced technologies and technical assistance.

Mitchell Lee said that bilateral relations and trade between Bangladesh and Singapore continue to expand. He also noted that Singapore is expected to appoint a full-fledged High Commissioner to Bangladesh in the near future to further strengthen diplomatic and commercial ties.

Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed highlighted the long-standing diplomatic and economic partnership between the two countries. He said the government is working to establish modern, technology-driven immigration and border security systems at Bangladesh’s airports and border checkpoints.

He also expressed optimism that cooperation between Bangladesh and Singapore would be further strengthened through collaboration in countering extremism, police training, and the transfer of advanced technologies.

Also present at the meeting were Philip Wong, successor to the Head of the Singapore Mission; Dr. Ziauddin Ahmed, Additional Secretary of the Political and Immigration Wing of the Ministry of Home Affairs; Dhanya Lingesh, Second Secretary of the Singapore Mission; and other senior officials.
