Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has stated that the government is actively working to ensure financial security, advanced healthcare, and a dignified life for senior citizens. The Prime Minister made this remark in a message issued on Wednesday on the eve of 'International Day of Older Persons 2026', to be observed on October 1. In his message, the Prime Minister noted that due to advancements in medical science and rising health awareness, average life expectancy is increasing globally. While this longevity creates new opportunities, it also underscores the pressing need to update health, social protection, and family support systems to guarantee a secure and dignified life for the elderly. He reaffirmed that the government has undertaken diverse action plans to establish a compassionate and welfare-oriented state.
Highlighting ongoing state initiatives, the administration has expanded old-age allowance programs and broadened beneficiary coverage to support individuals through every stage of the life cycle. In alignment with election manifestos, actions are moving forward to provide financial assistance through 'Family Cards', expand primary healthcare services, and strengthen the overall social safety net.
Describing senior citizens as the foundation of families and society, the Prime Minister emphasized that today's Bangladesh is built upon their sacrifices, experience, and wisdom. He stressed that a nurturing attitude toward the elderly is essential for building a just and humane society, urging active practice of respect and responsibility across family, societal, and state levels.
Concluding his message, the Prime Minister extended heartfelt greetings and respect to all senior citizens of the country on the auspicious occasion of International Day of Older Persons.
