Government Has No Involvement in Zaima Rahman's UN Appointment: Mahdi Amin

Mahdi Amin, Adviser to the Prime Minister on Education and Primary and Mass Education, has clarified that the Bangladesh government has no involvement whatsoever in the appointment of Barrister Zaima Rahman as a Legal Officer in the office of the President of the 81st session of the United Nations.

Criticizing various rumors circulating at home, he stated that she secured this prestigious position entirely on her own merit by fulfilling all professional criteria.

Speaking at a press conference regarding the Prime Minister’s tour to the United States held at the Karobi Hall of the Prime Minister's Office in Tejgaon on Wednesday afternoon, Mahdi Amin elaborated on the matter. He told the media that recruitment under the UN's executive office follows strict rules, regulations, and standardized procedures, leaving no room for external influence.

Explaining the professional qualifications required for the role, the Prime Minister's adviser noted that Zaima Rahman applied for and secured a 'P-3' level professional position based purely on her own capabilities. According to UN recruitment guidelines, while P-1 and P-2 positions require lower thresholds of experience, a P-3 (Professional-3) level position strictly mandates a minimum of five years of professional working experience.
