The Gmail and Facebook accounts of murdered journalist couple Sagar Sarowar and Meherun Runi remained active for fifteen days even after their assassination, according to International Crimes Tribunal Prosecutor Tanvir Hasan Zoha. Confirming the matter on Wednesday, the prosecutor stated that this information was uncovered through the analysis of Dark Web Open Source Intelligence (OSINT). Gmail authorities stated they cannot release information without a court order. Dismissing the narrative that the murder was merely a robbery, he noted that breaking the security of password-protected devices to log into accounts after a killing is not a standard theft.
Earlier on August 30, the prosecution highlighted the involvement of dismissed Major General Ziaul Hasan and Awami League leader Rokeya Prachi in the case. The journalist couple was killed on February 11, 2012, at their West Rajabazar residence in Dhaka. After years of stalled investigations and numerous delays in submission deadlines, the case is currently being investigated by a high-powered task force.
