Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer and opposition leader Dr Shafiqur Rahman will deliver the keynote address at an international conference on Bangladesh studies at Istanbul University in Turkey on Thursday.
Titled the “Second International Conference on Bangladesh Studies,” the event will focus on “Multidimensional Perspectives on the Reforms of Bangladesh 2.0 and New Horizons of Turkey-Bangladesh Cooperation.”
Dr Shafiqur Rahman left Dhaka for Turkey on Wednesday from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport to attend the conference.
The conference is being jointly organized by Istanbul University and the Center for Policy and Social Research (CPSR). Academics, policymakers, diplomats, researchers and representatives of various organizations and institutions from Bangladesh, Turkey and other countries are expected to participate.
According to Jamaat Assistant Secretary General and Central Publicity and Media Secretary Advocate Ehsanul Mahbub Zubair, Dr Shafiqur Rahman will travel to Saudi Arabia on October 9 after attending the conference in Turkey on October 8 to perform Umrah.
He is scheduled to leave Saudi Arabia for Dhaka on the night of October 10 and is expected to arrive in Bangladesh on the morning of October 11.
Before his departure, several senior Jamaat leaders were present at the airport to see off the party chief. They included Jamaat Secretary General and former lawmaker Mia Golam Parwar, Assistant Secretary General and Central Publicity and Media Secretary Advocate Ehsanul Mahbub Zubair, and Central Executive Council member Mohammad Mobarak Hossain.
