Albania Appoints AI-Powered Virtual Minister to Oversee Government Tenders

Albania has made a groundbreaking move by appointing an artificial intelligence-powered virtual bot as a member of its cabinet. The new AI minister, named “Diella”—which means “sun” in Albanian—was officially introduced by Prime Minister Edi Rama as part of his fourth-term government.

Diella will be responsible for handling government procurement and tender processes. The AI minister will supervise and approve all contracts awarded to private companies for public projects.

Prime Minister Rama stated, “Diella is Albania’s first minister who does not exist physically, but virtually. She will guarantee that government tenders remain 100 percent free of corruption.”

Public procurement has long been regarded as one of the most corruption-prone sectors in Albania. The country has also been widely criticized for serving as a hub for money laundering linked to drug and arms trafficking networks.

With this bold step, the Albanian government hopes to restore public trust and ensure greater transparency in state contracts.
