The European Green Party has issued a strong condemnation after most vessels of the Global Sumud flotilla—carrying humanitarian aid bound for Gaza—were detained, leaving only one boat reportedly released.

In a statement, Green co‑chair Bhula Setsi called the interception and detention of humanitarian shipments and the silencing of independent observers “unacceptable,” denouncing the actions as a clear breach of international law.

“This is an obvious violation of international law,” Setsi said. “We call on EU institutions and national governments to take immediate steps to ensure the safety and release of everyone on board the vessels.”

Setsi urged European authorities to act swiftly to protect aid workers and humanitarian supplies, stressing the urgent need to deliver life‑saving assistance to Gaza’s civilian population. The Green Party also renewed its call for an immediate and permanent ceasefire, and said EU bodies must play their part in ensuring the halt of hostilities.

“We call for life‑saving aid to be delivered urgently to Gaza’s civilians,” Setsi added. “We demand an immediate and lasting ceasefire—and the EU institutions must play their role to ensure this. The Israeli government must be held accountable for its violence and acts that amount to genocide.”

The Greens’ statement places pressure on European institutions to intervene diplomatically and to push for access for humanitarian shipments blocked at sea. It also frames the flotilla detentions as part of a broader international concern over constraints on aid deliveries and the safety of independent monitors in conflict zones.
