The United Nations has reported that Israeli forces have constructed a wall inside Lebanese territory. A survey conducted last month by the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) revealed that in the Yaroun area of southwestern Lebanon, Israeli forces built a wall crossing the UN-designated ‘Blue Line’.

On Friday, 14 November, a spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General confirmed this information.

The Blue Line is a UN-designated line that separates Lebanon from Israel and the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights.

UN Secretary-General’s spokesperson Stephane Dujarric said that the T-shaped concrete wall built by Israel has made over 4,000 square meters of land unusable for local Lebanese residents.

Another wall is being constructed to the southeast of Yaroun, which has already crossed the Blue Line. The spokesperson added that UN peacekeepers have discussed the issue with Israeli forces and demanded the removal of the wall.

In a statement, UNIFIL said that Israel’s presence and wall construction in Lebanese territory violate Lebanon’s sovereignty and breach Security Council Resolution 1701.

However, the Israeli military has denied these allegations. A spokesperson stated, “This wall is part of a broader plan by the IDF, whose construction began in 2022. Based on experiences gained after the war, we have taken various measures to strengthen defense along the northern border.”

According to UNIFIL’s website, the peacekeeping force was established in 1978 and operates from the Litani River south to the Blue Line. The mission includes more than 10,000 peacekeepers from 50 countries and nearly 800 civilian staff.
