The Pakistan Navy has conducted a military exercise in the Arabian Sea, during which it test-fired the FM-90 surface-to-air missile, a naval variant of China’s HQ-17 missile system.

The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement on Monday that the exercise was aimed at enhancing the navy’s air defense capabilities.

According to ISPR, the FM-90 missile is highly precise and capable of rapidly intercepting and destroying airborne targets. The missile has an estimated range of around 15 kilometers and can reach a maximum altitude of about 6 kilometers above sea level.

ISPR further stated that short-range missiles of this type are typically used to neutralize fast-moving aerial threats that manage to penetrate air defense systems.

The drill underscores Pakistan Navy’s efforts to strengthen its maritime defense readiness and operational preparedness in regional waters.
