Israeli security circles have expressed deep concern about Israel’s ability to defend itself and about how effective reliance on US defences would be if a possible war with Iran breaks out.
The Times of Israel reported that analysts are increasingly convinced that another round of conflict with Iran could place Israel less prepared to defend itself. This concern is linked to the growing Iranian missile threat, which is now greater than it was before the 12-day war in June last year.
The report said that the scale of the latest military clash between the two sides did not fully show the size of Iran’s missile threat. However, it did reveal shortcomings in the existing defence systems deployed to counter it.
While Tehran is working to restore and upgrade its missile arsenal, Israel and the United States are still facing a serious shortage of interceptor missiles and long production timelines. Experts believe this situation could fundamentally change the nature of the next round of missile confrontations.
