Iran’s Army Chief, Major General Amir Hatami, has said that Iran’s nuclear capabilities cannot be erased, responding to comments by U.S. President Donald Trump that Tehran would choose the path of a deal to avoid a U.S. military strike.
Hatami warned the United States and Israel against any form of attack, saying Iran’s armed forces are on the highest level of alert amid a growing U.S. military presence in the Gulf region.
According to Iran’s state news agency IRNA, Hatami made the remarks on Saturday.
“If the enemy makes any mistake, they will undoubtedly endanger their own security, the security of the region, and the security of the Zionist regime,” Hatami said, using Iran’s official reference to Israel.
He added that Iran’s armed forces are currently in a state of full defensive readiness and military preparedness.
Hatami’s comments come as tensions continue to rise between Iran and the United States, with increased naval deployments in the region and escalating rhetoric over Iran’s nuclear program.
