Intense military clashes have erupted along the Afghanistan-Pakistan border following Pakistani strikes in Kabul, Kandahar, and Paktika early Friday (February 27). In retaliation, the Afghan Taliban launched counter-attacks on Pakistani border posts.
Taliban spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid claimed that Afghan forces killed over 50 Pakistani soldiers, destroyed 19 border posts, and detained several military personnel.
On the other hand, Pakistan’s Prime Minister’s spokesperson, Mosharraf Zaidi, announced the commencement of "Operation Gazab Lil-Haq." Islamabad claims to have neutralized 133 Taliban fighters and injured over 200 others. Furthermore, Pakistan reported the destruction of 27 Taliban military posts and more than 80 tanks and armored personnel carriers. While both sides claim significant casualties, the figures have not yet been independently verified. This sudden escalation has pushed bilateral relations to a new low and heightened regional security concerns.
