Iran’s former president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has reportedly been killed in an Israeli attack, according to Iran Labor News Agency, which cited sources on Sunday.

The report states that Ahmadinejad’s residence was targeted as part of a broader strike on senior Iranian officials. The attack took place at his home in Northeast Tehran’s Narmak district, where several of his bodyguards were also reportedly killed.

Ahmadinejad served as Iran’s president from 2005 to 2013 and was known for his hardline stance, often outspoken against Western countries. Prior to the presidency, he held positions as governor of Ardabil province and mayor of Tehran.

He was re-elected in the controversial 2009 presidential election, which triggered widespread protests across Iran over alleged electoral fraud.
