Iran’s Supreme Leader is reportedly living in a secret location and maintaining only limited communication with the outside world, using a special courier network to exchange messages, according to a report by CBS News.

The report cited U.S. officials familiar with intelligence assessments, saying Iran’s leadership has tightened security amid fears of renewed targeted attacks. As a result, communication among the country’s top leadership has become highly restricted.

According to the report, these communication difficulties have also complicated discussions between Iran and the administration of former U.S. President Donald Trump.

Officials involved in the talks are reportedly unable to communicate quickly even among themselves. U.S. officials said responses from Tehran often take a long time because messages must first pass through intermediaries before reaching the Supreme Leader, after which decisions are relayed back through the same channels.

U.S. intelligence sources reportedly said Iran’s leadership adopted strict security measures following American and Israeli strikes during “Operation Epic Fury.”

The report stated that several senior Iranian officials could have been targeted and killed during the attacks. Since then, top officials have allegedly remained inside heavily protected bunkers for weeks and have avoided direct communication.

It also said that even high-ranking Iranian officials are now unaware of the Supreme Leader’s exact location and have no direct means of contacting him. Instead, trusted couriers are being used to deliver messages.

According to the report, the Supreme Leader now provides only broad instructions regarding which topics may be discussed and which should remain off limits.

Mojtaba Khamenei reportedly succeeded Ayatollah Ali Khamenei earlier this year following the latter’s death. The report said Mojtaba Khamenei has not appeared publicly since before the conflict began and remains under strict security precautions to avoid potential attacks.
