Representatives of the United States and Iran are scheduled to meet Friday in the Swiss mountain resort of Burgenstock, according to the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs.

BURGENSTOCK, SWITZERLAND —

Citing the current diplomatic framework, the Swiss foreign ministry said in a statement that officials from the United States and Iran, along with mediators from Pakistan and Qatar and representatives of other concerned countries, will hold preliminary discussions on implementing a recently signed agreement.

The ministry did not provide additional details regarding the meeting's agenda or schedule.

The talks follow the signing of an interim memorandum of understanding between the United States and Iran. The agreement had originally been expected to be formally signed in Geneva on Friday. However, it was signed earlier this week, on Wednesday, by U.S. President Donald Trump and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian.

Following the signing, Iranian officials indicated that a separate signing ceremony in Switzerland would no longer be necessary.

The agreement comes after months of heightened tensions and conflict surrounding Iran's nuclear program and regional security issues.

According to reports, military confrontations involving the United States, Iran, and Israel escalated earlier this year, leading to a series of diplomatic efforts aimed at preventing a wider regional conflict.

A temporary ceasefire was reached between Washington and Tehran in April, while indirect negotiations continued through regional mediators. However, tensions persisted across the Middle East, including renewed violence involving Israel, Lebanon, and Iran-backed groups.

In recent weeks, exchanges of military strikes and counterstrikes between Iran, Israel, and U.S. forces further raised concerns about regional stability. Diplomatic efforts intensified after President Trump announced plans on June 14 to finalize an agreement aimed at ending hostilities and establishing a framework for further negotiations.

Friday's meeting in Burgenstock is expected to focus on the practical implementation of the interim agreement and potential next steps toward a broader diplomatic settlement.
