Preparations are reportedly underway for the state funeral of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, with multiple stages of nationwide mourning expected to take place over the coming days. The ceremonies are anticipated to become one of the largest state mourning events in Iran’s history.

According to the reported schedule, Khamenei’s body is expected to be placed for public viewing in Tehran on July 4. A funeral procession is also planned through major streets of the capital, followed by the transfer of the body to the holy city of Qom. Additional tribute ceremonies are expected in Iraq’s Najaf and the historic city of Karbala.

From Karbala, the body is scheduled to be moved on July 9 to Mashhad, his birthplace, where he will reportedly be laid to rest.

The funeral is expected to draw international attention, with representatives and dignitaries from various countries likely to attend. Reports suggest that more than 20 million people could gather to pay their final respects.

Delegations from Bangladesh, Pakistan, India, and several other countries are also expected to be invited to participate in the ceremonies.

The reports further claim that Ayatollah Khamenei, aged 86, died on February 28 following a joint strike by the United States and Israel.
