Malaysia Ranked Joint Second in Global Passport Index 2026

Malaysia has achieved a major milestone in global travel mobility, securing the position of the world's second most powerful passport in The Passport Index Global Ranking 2026.

According to the latest rankings, Malaysia shares the Silver Tier and joint second place with Singapore, marking an improvement from its third-place ranking last year.

Malaysia's Immigration Department confirmed the achievement in a social media post on Monday, saying the ranking reflects the country's growing international acceptance and strong diplomatic ties around the world.

According to The Passport Index, Malaysian passport holders now enjoy access to 175 destinations worldwide, including:

• 129 visa-free destinations

• 46 countries offering visa-on-arrival access

• Only 23 destinations requiring a visa or prior travel authorization

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) retained the top position as the world's most powerful passport, while Spain ranked third. A group of 16 countries, including Belgium, Denmark, Germany, Sweden, Italy, Switzerland, Austria, and Norway, shared fourth place in the global rankings.

The Malaysian Immigration Department said the improved ranking is expected to make international travel easier and more convenient for Malaysian citizens while further strengthening the country's global standing.

According to the same index, Bangladesh ranked 92nd, while India and Pakistan placed 71st and 96th, respectively. Afghanistan remained at the bottom of the rankings in 99th place.
