Qatar has mandated the closure of all commercial and industrial establishments for 1.5 hours during Friday (Jummah) prayers, starting from August 18. The decision was officially published in the country’s government gazette and signed by Minister of Commerce and Industry Sheikh Faisal bin Qassim Al Thani.

According to the directive, all businesses and factories must suspend operations every Friday from the first call to prayer (Adhan) until the end of Jummah prayers.

However, essential services are exempt from this rule. These include pharmacies, hospitals, hotels, bakeries, fuel stations, telecommunications, transportation services, and businesses operating 24/7 in rotating shifts.

The Ministry stated that the move is aimed at promoting public interest and social well-being. It has also instructed all government departments to ensure the implementation of the decision within their respective jurisdictions.
