NEWS DESKBased on a notice released by a school, students in the 1404 solar year (starting March 22) will be required to wear the new Taliban-issued uniform. The announcement was published on Thursday, February 27.
The notice states that students in grades 1 to 9 will be required to wear a blue shirt and pants, along with a white hat. For students in grades 10 to 12, the uniform will consist of a white shirt and pants, along with a headscarf or turban.
Previously, Hibatullah Akhundzada, the Taliban’s leader, signed a nine-point decree establishing that the uniform for all public and private schools would consist of a shirt, pants, turban, and white hat.
The bill does not mention the uniforms for female students or female teachers. The uniform color for female students is black.
Since regaining control over Afghanistan, the Taliban has banned education for girls above grade six and closed the doors of universities and medical educational centers to them.
This decree has sparked widespread reactions. Many citizens believe that, alongside the changes in the educational curriculum and uniforms, the Taliban has fully Talibanized the educational system in Afghanistan.
Before the Taliban imposed the new uniform policy, school students wore uniforms like the one in the photo above.
These changes have raised concerns about the future of education in the country, as the Taliban’s strict approach to school attire and curriculum is seen by many as an attempt to impose their ideology on the youth.
The international community and Afghan citizens are closely watching how these developments will shape the educational landscape in the coming years.
