The holy month of Ramadan is likely to last a full 30 days this year in many Arab countries across the Middle East, according to astronomical predictions.
Ibrahim Al Jarwan, Chairman of the Emirates Astronomy Society, has indicated the probable date for Eid al-Fitr.
He stated that Ramadan is expected to complete 30 days this year, with the first day of Shawwal likely to fall on March 20.
This means that countries such as Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, and Qatar are expected to celebrate Eid al-Fitr on Friday, March 20.
Regarding moon sighting prospects, Al Jarwan noted that on the 29th day of Ramadan, the crescent moon is unlikely to be visible in the skies over Arab countries. “There will be no الهلال (crescent) visible on that evening,” he said, suggesting that the month will likely run its full course.
However, the exact date of Eid will ultimately depend on official moon sightings as announced by religious authorities in each country.
