Indonesia and Malaysia have officially announced the date for Eid-ul-Adha, one of the biggest religious festivals for Muslims worldwide. The two countries will celebrate the festival, also known as the Festival of Sacrifice, on Wednesday, May 27.

Authorities in both countries confirmed that the Islamic month of Dhul Hijjah, the final month of the Hijri calendar, will begin on Monday following the sighting of the moon.

Earlier, Tunisia became the first country in the world to officially announce the date of Eid-ul-Adha this year. On Saturday evening, after the 29th day of the month of Dhul Qa’dah, Tunisian authorities confirmed the sighting of the Dhul Hijjah moon.

Meanwhile, Turkey announced the Eid date without relying on traditional moon sighting. Instead, the country follows a pre-determined Islamic calendar based on astronomical calculations and scientific data. According to Turkey’s calendar, May 18 will mark the first day of Dhul Hijjah, and Eid-ul-Adha will be observed on May 27. Traditionally, Muslims celebrate Eid-ul-Adha on the 10th day of Dhul Hijjah.

At the same time, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Oman, and most other Middle Eastern and Muslim-majority countries are set to observe the moon for Dhul Hijjah on Sunday evening, May 17. If the moon is sighted, these countries are also expected to celebrate Eid-ul-Adha on May 27. Official announcements are expected after the moon sighting process is completed.
