A Dhaka court has set January 29 as the new deadline for the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to submit its further investigation report regarding the murder of Sharif Osman Hadi, the spokesperson for Inqilab Mancha.
Although the report was scheduled for submission today, Sunday (January 25), Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Joshita Islam deferred the date as the CID failed to provide the findings. Earlier, the plaintiff filed a 'no-confidence' (Naraji) petition against the Detective Branch’s (DB) charge sheet, prompting the court to order a more detailed investigation by the CID.
According to the case details, Osman Hadi was shot by miscreants on December 12 last year while returning from Friday prayers in the Purana Paltan area. Despite being flown to Singapore for advanced medical care, he succumbed to his injuries on December 18. Abdullah Al Jaber, the member secretary of Inqilab Mancha, subsequently filed a case at Paltan Police Station. On December 20, following an appeal from the investigating officer, the court formally added Section 302 (murder) of the Penal Code to the case charges.
In the initial charge sheet submitted by the DB, 17 individuals were accused, of whom 11 are currently in custody while 6 remain fugitives. The absconding suspects include the primary shooter, Faisal Karim Masud (alias Rahul), and former ward councillor Taijul Islam Chowdhury Bappi. Meanwhile, the detained suspects include the parents, wife, and close associates of the main accused. The legal proceedings are now focused on the upcoming CID report to determine the next course of action.
