Saudi Arabia has issued a stark warning to Iran, suggesting that Israel could launch an attack if the U.S. President Donald Trump’s nuclear deal proposal is not taken seriously. This alert was conveyed to Tehran by Saudi Defense Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman in April, according to a Reuters report published on Friday.

The message was sent by Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz through his son, Prince Khalid, who personally delivered it during a confidential meeting in Tehran. On April 17, a closed-door session took place at the Iranian presidential palace with the presence of Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, Chief of Armed Forces Mohammad Bagheri, and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.

According to four sources, Prince Khalid cautioned Iran that President Trump is not inclined towards prolonged negotiations but prefers quick decisions. He warned that failure in talks could increase the likelihood of an Israeli attack. He stressed that reaching a swift agreement would be in the best interest of the region.

Gulf sources further reported that the Saudi defense minister noted the already tense situation in Gaza and Lebanon, with ongoing conflicts, suggesting that additional escalation would be intolerable for the region.

This visit marked the first time in two decades that a top Saudi prince visited Iran. The long-standing enmity between Riyadh and Tehran had been somewhat alleviated in 2023 following the restoration of diplomatic ties with Chinese mediation.

However, neither the Saudi nor Iranian governments have officially commented on the Reuters investigation.

The issue of Iran’s nuclear program has been a long-standing point of contention between Iran and the U.S. While the U.S. demands that Iran refrain from developing nuclear weapons, Iran has consistently denied these claims, maintaining that its nuclear activities are peaceful. Recently, President Trump mentioned that Iran had shown flexibility, and the two countries are now close to finalizing a deal.

Iran has been seeking the lifting of sanctions imposed on it, in exchange for limiting certain nuclear activities, while preserving its right to the peaceful use of nuclear energy.

This situation comes at a time when nuclear talks between Iran and Western powers have been at an impasse for some time. In 2018, the U.S. withdrew from the deal during Trump’s first term, and now both parties are trying to revive the agreement under new terms.
