Saudi Arabia Issues Red Alert for Parts of Mecca Region Amid Heavy Rain and Flash Flood Risk

Saudi Arabia's National Center for Meteorology (NCM) has issued a red weather alert for several areas in the Mecca region, warning of heavy rainfall and a heightened risk of flash flooding.

According to Gulf News, the warning covers Taif, Al Kamil, Adham, and surrounding areas, where heavy rain, thunderstorms, hail, and strong winds are forecast. Authorities have also warned of possible flash floods, reduced visibility caused by dust and sandstorms, and hazardous travel conditions.

The NCM has also forecast moderate to heavy thunderstorms in several other parts of the Kingdom, including:

• Mecca
• Jazan
• Asir
• Al Baha
• Parts of Madinah Province

Weather officials said rain-bearing thunderclouds accompanied by strong winds could also develop over the Northern Borders Region, parts of Jazan, the Eastern Province, and southern areas of the Riyadh Region.

In eastern coastal areas, fog is expected during the late-night and early-morning hours, potentially reducing visibility for motorists.

Despite the unstable weather conditions, much of Saudi Arabia is expected to experience intense heat.

Forecasters said daytime temperatures will remain above 40°C in many areas, with Madinah expected to record highs of up to 47°C.

Authorities have urged residents and visitors to follow official weather updates, avoid flood-prone areas during heavy rainfall, and exercise caution while traveling as severe weather conditions persist.
