A senior official from the United States Army’s nuclear and chemical security division has been placed on administrative leave following allegations that he disclosed sensitive military information to an unidentified individual. The incident has reignited debate in the United States over military security protocols and the handling of classified information.

The controversy emerged after a covertly recorded video surfaced online. In the footage, U.S. nuclear scientist Andrew Haug is seen speaking in a crowded restaurant about sensitive topics related to military and nuclear policy.

The video was published on social media platform X by conservative activist James O’Keefe, founder of Project Veritas and later the O’Keefe Media Group, known for releasing undercover investigative videos.

According to O’Keefe, the senior nuclear official was caught sharing critical national security details with a “stranger.” The claims include discussions about the death of a military chemist allegedly exposed to banned nerve agents, civilian casualties—including children—in U.S. strikes on Iran, and even remarks about potential targeting of Iran’s top leadership.

Nerve agents are highly toxic chemical substances that disrupt the nervous system and can lead to death upon exposure. Their production, stockpiling, transfer, and use are strictly prohibited under international law, specifically the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC), which came into force in 1997.

In the video, Haug reportedly states that his role involves ensuring the safety and security of nuclear and chemical weapons and verifying the reliability of personnel working within those systems. He also allegedly claims that the United States still possesses nerve agents and recounts an incident in which a military chemist died after exposure.

Additionally, Haug is heard discussing U.S. missile detection systems, explaining that satellites, radar, and space-based sensors are used to detect launches and determine their trajectory and size.

He also comments on military communication protocols, emphasizing that even in high-pressure situations, all launch-related messages must be rigorously verified.

The footage further includes remarks attributed to Haug suggesting that Iran’s top leadership could be considered military targets under certain conditions, despite ongoing diplomatic discussions at the time. He also refers to civilian casualties in conflict as “an inevitable cost of war,” stating that children often die in such situations.

Following the video’s release, the U.S. Army confirmed that Haug has been placed on administrative leave pending a full investigation. Army spokesperson Cynthia Smith stated that the matter is being taken seriously and is under thorough review. Reports that Haug has been removed from the Pentagon have not been independently verified.
