NEWS DESKWhite House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt lashed out at the media when asked whether presidential immunity would prevent any possible prosecution of former President Barack Obama.
Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard joined Leavitt for Wednesday’s White House press briefing where she accused Obama and officials in his administration of manufacturing evidence to suggest Russian President Vladimir Putin preferred President Donald Trump in the 2016 presidential election.
Multiple intelligence agencies determined Russia tried to influence the 2016 election. Gabbard claimed the conclusion that he tried to influence it one way or the other was manufactured by Obama’s administration.
Gabbard previously accused Obama and others of taking part in a “treasonous conspiracy.” Trump meanwhile claimed from the White House this week that Obama is guilty of “treason.”
The Daily Caller’s Reagan Reese on Wednesday asked Leavitt whether the Supreme Court’s decision on presidential immunity would mean Trump’s will to have Obama prosecuted would be impossible. Leavitt did not directly answer that question, but lashed out at the media.
The Supreme Court ruled in 2024- in a win for Trump - that presidents have “absolute immunity” from prosecution for officials acts taken as president.
Leavitt said, I can speak to the President’s feelings on this matter. He spoke to all of you yesterday in the Oval Office, but I also spoke to him about this this morning. And he wants to see all those who perpetuated this fraud against our country, who betrayed our country and the Constitution, to be thoroughly investigated and held accountable.
And it’s been, you know, 10 years of this. And I would just add, based on everything the director has said and declassified, all of you in this room should go through it and take a look at this report and review the intelligence because unfortunately that hasn’t happened.
Leavitt blasted networks for hiring former intelligence officials from Obama’s administration and not pushing back enough against claims from Democrats about Trump. “You had major Democrat Party officials in this city, namely Adam Schiff, Hillary Clinton, Elizabeth Warren, who went on television and told the American people Donald Trump is an asset of Russia.
It was a lie. They always knew it. Hillary Clinton herself said that President Trump would be a puppet for Putin. Senator Tim Kaine at the time called President Trump Vladimir Putin’s defense lawyer,” Leavitt said.
She blasted journalists for not questioning accusations painting Trump in a negative light enough. “Not enough people in this room, not enough journalists in this country pushed Adam Schiff to say, what are you talking about? What evidence do you have?” Leavitt said. “Everybody just ran with the lies and it led to impeachments and led to the division of our country, unfortunately.”
