Donald Trump may scale back American involvement in the Ukraine war, according to remarks made by his eldest son, Donald Trump Jr., at a conference in the Middle East.

In a lengthy criticism of the ongoing conflict, Trump Jr. questioned the value of continuing the war, claiming that Ukraine’s “corrupt elites” had already fled the country—leaving the burden of fighting to what he described as the nation’s “so-called farmer class.”

Trump Jr. holds no official position in his father’s administration, but he is one of the most influential figures in the MAGA movement. His comments are being viewed as a reflection of the Trump camp’s increasingly skeptical stance toward Ukraine, especially as Trump’s negotiating team reportedly presses Kyiv to consider territorial concessions.

According to Trump Jr., Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is prolonging the conflict because he would not be able to win an election if the war ended. He argued that although Western liberals treat Zelensky almost like a “demigod,” Ukraine is “more corrupt than Russia.”

He also criticized Kaja Kallas, the European Union’s foreign policy chief, arguing that Europe’s sanctions have failed because rising oil prices are helping Russia finance its war. “If the plan was to bankrupt Russia, then that’s not a plan,” he said.

Trump Jr. further claimed that during the 2022 U.S. midterm elections, he met only three voters who considered the Ukraine war to be among their top 10 concerns. He described the threat of fentanyl entering the U.S. by boat from Venezuela as a far greater danger than the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

In another controversial claim, Trump Jr. said he had seen numerous luxury cars—including Bugattis and Ferraris—during a visit to Monaco this summer, alleging that “50 percent” of them had Ukrainian license plates. He questioned how Ukrainians could afford such cars if the country truly lacked resources, though he provided no evidence to support these assertions.

“When we see Ukrainian plates on every car in Monaco, it’s clear that the wealthy have fled,” he said. “They left the people behind to fight the war. As long as money kept coming in, they were stealing—and nobody checked anything, so peace was never on the table.”

Will Trump Withdraw Support for Ukraine?

When asked whether his father might withdraw U.S. support for Ukraine—despite previously claiming he could bring peace to the region if elected—Trump Jr. replied, “Possibly.” He added that his father is an “unpredictable” political figure, meaning his decisions cannot be anticipated in advance.

Trump Jr. also stated that the United States will no longer “open its checkbook like a fool for anyone.”
