The Trump administration has added seven more countries to the list of nations facing a full U.S. travel ban, barring their citizens from entering the United States.

President Donald Trump signed the executive order on Tuesday, expanding the scope of the travel restrictions.

According to the announcement, the countries newly added to the full travel ban list are Laos, Sierra Leone, Burkina Faso, Mali, Niger, South Sudan, and Syria.

Earlier in June, the administration imposed a full travel ban on 12 countries: Iran, Afghanistan, Myanmar, Chad, the Republic of the Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, and Yemen.

In addition, 15 more countries have been placed under partial travel restrictions, bringing the total number of countries subject to U.S. travel bans to 39.

Citizens of the listed countries will face restrictions when seeking to travel to the United States. The White House said the decision was based on what it described as serious deficiencies in identity screening, vetting processes, and information-sharing mechanisms in those countries.
