U.S. President Donald Trump has issued a severe warning to the Iranian leadership amid an intensifying crackdown on anti-government demonstrations.

Trump asserted that if the Iranian regime resorts to killing its own citizens, the country will have to "pay hell." His remarks, reported by The Times of Israel, come as nationwide protests against the clerical establishment enter a second week.

Addressing the Iranian authorities, Trump cautioned that using lethal force against peaceful protesters would lead to catastrophic consequences. He reiterated that the United States would not remain silent if Tehran chooses a path of violence, stating that any attempt to suppress the Iranian people through bloodshed would be met with a decisive response.

The unrest in Iran, sparked by soaring inflation, economic instability, and social grievances, has seen thousands taking to the streets across major cities. In response, the Iranian government has implemented a near-total internet blackout and deployed security forces to quell the dissent. While international human rights groups report a rising death toll and thousands of arrests, Tehran continues to blame "foreign enemies" and warned that it will not tolerate external interference in its domestic affairs.
