Nasa has successfully completed its historic crewed lunar flyby mission as artemis_ii returned safely to Earth, marking a major milestone in human space exploration.

The spacecraft carrying four astronauts completed a nine-day journey around the Moon before re-entering Earth’s atmosphere and splashing down in the Pacific Ocean. The crew included christina_kochvictor_gloverjeremy_hansen, and mission commander reid_wiseman.

The astronauts returned aboard the orion_spacecraft, which entered Earth’s atmosphere at speeds of around 40,000 kilometers per hour. During re-entry, the spacecraft’s heat shield endured extreme conditions, reaching temperatures of approximately 2,700 degrees Celsius.

Mission control in Houston experienced a communication blackout lasting about six minutes due to ionized plasma forming around the capsule during re-entry. Contact was later re-established when Commander Wiseman responded successfully from orbit descent.

The spacecraft deployed parachutes before safely landing in the Pacific Ocean, where a recovery vessel retrieved the crew without any complications.

Officials described the mission as a major success, noting that the astronauts traveled farther from Earth than any humans in history during the course of the mission. The achievement is being seen as a key step toward future deep-space exploration and eventual human missions to the Moon and beyond.
