The future trajectory of the Iran conflict is now heavily dependent on U.S. President Donald Trump’s upcoming high-stakes visit to China. Scheduled for May 14, the meeting between Donald Trump and President Xi Jinping is expected to have the ‘Iran issue’ as its primary agenda.

According to reports from NBC and White House sources, the Trump administration views this Beijing trip as a decisive factor in evaluating whether to pursue further military escalation or diplomatic alternatives against Tehran.

Despite earlier delays due to the onset of regional tensions, the visit is now firmly set for May 14 and 15. White House officials have described the trip as a "priority" that the administration is no longer willing to postpone. However, the situation remains complicated. The New York Times reports that existing blockades on the Strait of Hormuz and Iranian ports have created a complex backdrop for the talks. While Beijing has expressed its desire to play a "constructive role" in ending the conflict, the U.S. has imposed sanctions on several Chinese refineries and shipping firms for allegedly trading in Iranian oil.

China relies heavily on the Strait of Hormuz for its energy imports, a route that has been largely disrupted since early March. Analysts suggest that the United States might exercise caution in its next moves against Iran to avoid a total breakdown in relations with Beijing. Ultimately, the question of whether the conflict intensifies or de-escalates appears to be hidden within the outcomes of Trump’s upcoming diplomatic mission to China.
