US President Donald Trump is reportedly planning to remove Marty Makary from his position as head of the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), according to multiple White House sources.

The news was first reported on Friday by The Wall Street Journal. One source claimed that Trump has already approved the decision and that Makary’s tenure is effectively considered over.

Responding to the reports, White House spokesperson Kush Desai said in a statement that President Trump has assembled “one of the most capable and experienced administrations in history” and that the administration remains focused on delivering “historic achievements” for the American people.

However, the US Department of Health and Human Services did not immediately comment on the matter.

Speculation over Makary’s possible dismissal has intensified over the past week, particularly amid controversies surrounding drug approvals, vaccine policies, and the management of the abortion pill Mifepristone.

According to reports, under the leadership of Makary and Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., thousands of FDA employees have either lost their jobs or resigned voluntarily.

Several senior officials responsible for reviewing new medicines have also reportedly left the agency in recent months. In addition, top officials from major US health institutions, including the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the National Institutes of Health (NIH), have stepped down recently amid broader upheaval in the country’s public health administration.

The reported move against Makary comes as the Trump administration faces increasing scrutiny over its handling of health and regulatory agencies.
