Diplomatic friction has intensified between New Delhi and Washington following a military strike on commercial oil tankers in the Gulf of Oman that resulted in the tragic deaths of three Indian sailors.

In a high-stakes telephone conversation, India's External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio deliberated over the volatile situation escalating near the Strait of Hormuz. During the call, Jaishankar lodged a fierce protest against the lethal operation, later stating on social media that such deadly assaults on civilian merchant vessels are entirely unacceptable.

In response to the crisis, New Delhi summoned Washington's top diplomat twice within a single week to formally register its condemnation. Conversely, Secretary Marco Rubio issued a stern ultimatum regarding compliance with economic blockades, making it unequivocally clear that evasion of sanctions or the illicit transport of Iranian oil would not be tolerated under any circumstances. This confrontation follows a recent operation by Central Command, which neutralized three vessels for allegedly attempting to bypass global energy embargoes.
