At least eight people, including four children, were injured in a shooting incident in the Coney Island area of Brooklyn during Independence Day celebrations, the New York Police Department (NYPD) confirmed on Sunday.
According to an NYPD statement, officers responded to reports of gunfire at approximately 10:37 p.m. local time on West 31st Street in Brooklyn.
Police said the injured include two men, two women, and four children aged 14, 12, 7, and 6. All victims were transported to nearby hospitals for treatment.
Authorities reported that seven of the injured are in stable condition, while a 21-year-old woman remains in critical condition.
According to ABC News, law enforcement recovered a firearm from the scene. However, no arrests have been made so far, and the investigation is ongoing.
The incident occurred during the Independence Day holiday weekend in the United States, shortly after celebrations marking the country’s 250th anniversary of independence.
