President Donald Trump announced that the memorandum of understanding signed with Iran to mitigate conflicts is officially "over." Speaking on Wednesday (July 8) ahead of his departure for the NATO summit in Ankara, Turkey, the President asserted that he has absolutely no intention of engaging in any further diplomatic talks with Tehran.
When questioned by reporters whether the fragile ceasefire with Iran had collapsed, Trump responded bluntly, stating, "In my opinion, it is finished. I want nothing to do with them; they are sick people, and they are led by sick people. Working with them is just a total waste of time."
The escalation comes immediately after domestic forces launched fresh military strikes against Iranian targets on Tuesday and revoked their oil export licenses, following attacks on three maritime tankers. In retaliation, Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) targeted regional military bases housing local troops in Bahrain and Kuwait, effectively dismantling the truce. Trump noted that while administrative envoys may choose to continue dialogue, he remains highly skeptical of any positive outcome, characterizing the effort as purely a waste of time.
