Several Wall Street trading firms are competing for faster access to influential posts on Truth Social, the social media platform owned by President Donald Trump. Some firms are reportedly willing to pay up to $100,000 a month to use Trump Media & Technology Group’s controversial new “Truth API” service.
An API, or application programming interface, is a technology that allows information to be transferred automatically and almost instantaneously from one software system to another. Through the new service, posts from Truth Social can reach high-speed traders before they become widely available to ordinary users, potentially giving traders an early advantage in financial markets.
Trump Media & Technology Group launched the service at the beginning of August. Interim Chief Executive Officer Kevin McGurn said during an earnings call that more than 10 companies are currently using the service, most of them involved in high-frequency trading.
According to the company, these firms are paying between $60,000 and $100,000 a month for faster access to the information—equivalent to roughly Tk 7.4 million to Tk 12.3 million per month.
Trump Media recently released its financial results for the April-June quarter, reporting a loss of approximately $238 million. The loss was more than 10 times higher than the loss recorded during the same period a year earlier.
According to 10x Research analyst Markus Thielen, the company’s substantial losses were largely linked to investments in new areas beyond its core media and technology businesses, including cryptocurrency and other digital assets. The decline in cryptocurrency markets during the quarter contributed to the losses.
Despite the quarterly loss, Trump Media’s total assets stood at approximately $2 billion, including around $1.9 billion in cash, short-term investments and digital assets.
The plan to provide Wall Street investors with faster access to Truth Social posts was first developed in July. Trump frequently uses the platform to make policy and economic announcements, making his posts potentially significant for financial markets.
However, the initiative has raised legal and ethical questions. Critics have questioned whether a company whose majority shareholders include members of the Trump family should be able to profit by selling access to the President’s own statements and social media posts.
In a statement on Monday, Trump Media said the API service could become a “sustainable and meaningful” source of revenue for the company.
The company is also exploring opportunities to expand its business in advertising, technology, news organizations, betting markets and renewable energy.
However, Trump Media recently abandoned plans to launch a prediction market on Truth Social in partnership with Crypto.com. The company has indicated that it will refocus its attention on its core social media business.
