Six people, including the suspected gunman, were killed in a shooting incident in the U.S. state of Michigan on Friday, prompting a large-scale police search before the suspect was found dead.

According to the Michigan State Police, officers responded shortly before noon to reports of a shooting at a residence in Missaukee County, about 272 kilometers (169 miles) northwest of Detroit. At the scene, police found three people dead and another critically injured. The injured victim was taken to a hospital for treatment.

Authorities identified the suspected shooter as 39-year-old Chad Hickman, who had fled the scene before law enforcement officers arrived.

Police launched an extensive manhunt for Hickman. During the search, officers discovered another body at a separate residence.

Officials warned residents through social media that Hickman was considered armed and dangerous and urged the public not to approach him if spotted.

Later, police located Hickman's vehicle in a wooded area near Whitlock Lake. Officers found Hickman dead at the scene along with another deceased individual.

Investigators have not yet disclosed the causes of death for all six victims or whether those involved were related or had any personal connections. Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Michigan State Police Lieutenant Ashley Miller described the tragedy as devastating for both the local community and investigators.

"This is an incredibly tragic event for the entire community and a difficult case for investigators," Miller said.

She added that the investigation remains ongoing and that further information will be released as it becomes available.

Police have urged residents to avoid the area while investigators continue their work. Authorities also said the names and ages of the victims will not be released until their families have been notified.
