Trump Posts Map Calling Strait of Hormuz ‘Trump Strait’ Amid Iran War

US President Donald Trump on Saturday posted a map on his Truth Social account labeling the Strait of Hormuz as the “Trump Strait,” following a new Iranian proposal aimed at ending the war and reopening the strategic waterway.

Iran had proposed restoring normal maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz within seven days if the United States met several conditions. These included lifting the US naval blockade of Iranian ports, easing sanctions on Iranian oil sales and implementing a ceasefire, including in Lebanon.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said normal shipping through the strait could resume within seven days if Washington accepted the proposal.

However, The Wall Street Journal reported that Trump had rejected Iran’s proposal to reopen the waterway and end the conflict in the Middle East. Tehran was awaiting an official US response following the report.

Trump had previously hinted at renaming the Strait of Hormuz. On September 2, he asked in a post on Truth Social whether the waterway could be renamed the “Trump Strait.” The White House later released a map using the same name.

The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most important energy shipping routes. Tensions over control of the waterway and the movement of commercial vessels have intensified amid the conflict between Iran and the United States.

Under Iran’s proposal, reopening the strait was directly linked to the lifting of the US naval blockade and an easing of sanctions.

The White House has previously claimed that US forces control the Strait of Hormuz and are ensuring the safe passage of commercial vessels through the strategic waterway.
