Donald Trump most unpopular president in 70 years: CNN poll

United States President Donald Trump's rating has sharply declined as the 100-day mark of his presidency approaches. The American view has changed and turned deeply negative toward the president who won back the Oval Office this January, according to a CNN poll rating. Trump’s approval rating is the lowest for any newly elected president at 100 days.

Only about 22% say they strongly approve of his handling of the job, a new low, while roughly twice that number, 45%, say they strongly disapprove. Trump has seen a major drop, especially from women, to 36% and Hispanic Americans by 28%.

On economic issues, Trump’s rating has declined since early March after the tariff plan was announced, and the stock market became volatile, and there were worries about prices rising. Trump’s approval has dipped to 35% same as on the tariffs themselves to 35%. When it comes to the economy, his approval has come to a career low of 39%, he hit his previous low once in his first term and again this March. Only about 52% exude confidence in his ability to deal with the economy in comparison with the December CNN poll.

After Trump’s sweeping overhaul of the federal workforce, he has seen a decline when it comes to his ability to manage the federal government to 42%, i.e. 6 points lower since March. Only about 43% see his actions see it necessary to shake up Washington, while a majority of 53% say his approach to the presidency is unnecessarily putting the country at risk.

His moves on foreign affairs, as he has shown a friendlier stance towards Russia, as the war with Ukraine continues, and the termination of several foreign aid programs, a majority disapprove of 60%, with Trump, while 39% approve. About half say they have confidence in his ability to handle foreign affairs, which has dipped from 55% before he took office, according to the CNN poll.

On immigration, an issue where Trump had outperformed during his first term, the poll finds that his popularity has declined and diminished confidence in Trump’s actions. About 45% approve now, from March, and 53% express confidence in his ability to deal with it, down from 60% in December.

However, Americans remain closely divided on whether Trump has kept his key campaign promises, with 48% saying he’s done a good job and 51% saying he hasn’t-figures that closely resemble sentiment at this point in his first term.

While a 55% majority believes he has taken at least some steps to address the nation’s problems, only 28% feel that his actions have already begun to make a meaningful impact.
