Bangladesh’s Foreign Affairs Adviser Md Touhid Hossain has clarified that comments made by Hasnat Abdullah regarding India’s northeastern “Seven Sisters” states do not represent the position of the government.

Speaking to journalists at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Wednesday, Touhid Hossain said Hasnat Abdullah, the southern chief organiser of the National Citizen Party (NCP), is not part of the government. “Hasnat is not a member of the government. Therefore, his remarks do not reflect the government’s stance. Bangladesh will never provide shelter to any separatist individual,” he said.

The adviser stressed that Bangladesh does not support terrorism or separatism in any form. He reiterated that if any separatist individual were to enter Bangladesh, the government would not offer refuge. “This is Hasnat’s personal statement, not that of the government,” he added.

Touhid Hossain’s comments come amid discussions surrounding Hasnat Abdullah’s remarks about India’s northeastern region, which drew attention both domestically and across the border. The government’s clarification aims to reaffirm Bangladesh’s longstanding policy of non-interference, respect for sovereignty, and zero tolerance toward extremism or separatist activities.
