Inqilab Mancha has called on the public to gather at Shahbag following the funeral and burial of its spokesperson, Shahid Sharif Osman Hadi.

At the same time, the organization has issued a 24-hour ultimatum to the Home Affairs Adviser and the Chief Adviser’s Special Assistant, Khodabox Chowdhury, demanding an explanation of what steps have been taken over the past week to arrest the attacker responsible for the assault on Hadi.

The ultimatum was announced by Inqilab Mancha’s Member Secretary, Abdullah Al Jaber, in a statement delivered on behalf of the family just before the funeral prayers on Saturday.

Urging people not to respond to any calls for violence, Jaber said that all decisions would be communicated officially by Inqilab Mancha. He stated that despite a week having passed, the attacker had not yet been arrested. He demanded that within the next 24 hours, the Home Affairs Adviser and Khodabox Chowdhury inform the public about the actions taken during the past week.

Earlier, the Religious Affairs Adviser addressed the gathering at Hadi’s funeral and requested prayers for the deceased. After Jaber’s speech, the Chief Adviser also spoke. This was followed by a speech from Osman Hadi’s elder brother, who also led the funeral prayer as the imam.

On Saturday morning, Hadi’s body was taken to the morgue of Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital for an autopsy. It was later taken to the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases for ritual washing.

Meanwhile, from early morning, people from distant places gathered at the hospital and the South Plaza of the National Parliament to see Hadi for the last time. In addition to the Chief Adviser, leaders and activists from all political parties and members of the Advisory Council were present at the funeral.

Earlier, on Thursday night, the Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus announced a one-day state mourning on Saturday in his address to the nation following the death of Sharif Osman Hadi.

It may be noted that on Friday afternoon local time, Osman Hadi was critically injured after being shot by assailants. He was initially taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where he underwent surgery. Later, at the family’s request, he was admitted to Evercare Hospital. On December 15, he was flown to Singapore by air ambulance for advanced treatment. He passed away at around 9:30 p.m. on Thursday night while undergoing treatment at Singapore General Hospital.
