The family of martyr Sharif Osman Hadi, who was vocal in the anti-fascism and anti-hegemony movement, is being provided with special security.
One of Hadi's sisters is getting a license and gunman. Round-the-clock police security will also be provided for the safety of other members.
The government has taken initiatives to ensure the personal security of July fighters, coordinators and parliamentary candidates and top leaders of various political parties. As part of this, gunmans have been given to some of the frontline participants in the July movement. The issue of granting them personal weapon licenses is also under process.
The list includes former advisor to the interim government and National Citizens Party (NCP) convener Nahid Islam, NCP's southern chief coordinator Hasnat Abdullah, senior joint member secretary Tasnim Zara and chief coordinator (northern region) Sarjis Alam. In addition, several politicians and parliamentary candidates have applied for gunman and weapon licenses. Jamaat Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman and Bangladesh Jatiya Party (JP) chief Barrister Andalib Rahman Partha have requested gunmen for personal security from the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).
Several politicians are being given gunmen and weapons licenses soon based on their applications. Among them are – Ganosamhati Andolon chief coordinator Zonayed Saki, BNP-nominated parliamentary candidate from Demra-Jatrabari area Tanvir Ahmed Robin, BNP-nominated candidate from Pabna-3 constituency Zafir Tuhin, Jatiya Party (JP) chairman and former minister Anwar Hossain Manju, Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) president Col. (retd) Oli Ahmed and several others.
This information has been confirmed by high-level sources in the Home Ministry and the police.
