US Ambassador to Bangladesh Brent Christensen has said that the United States will not take sides in Bangladesh’s upcoming 13th national parliamentary election.
He made the remarks on Wednesday after meeting Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) A M M Nasir Uddin at the Election Commission (EC) building. The ambassador did not take any questions from journalists following the meeting.
Christensen said the outcome of the election would be determined by the people of Bangladesh, stressing that the United States would remain neutral throughout the process. He added that the US is prepared to work with any government elected through the people’s votes.
“The Chief Election Commissioner briefed us on all preparations for the election,” the ambassador said. “I am very interested in the election results.”
Earlier, the US ambassador arrived at the EC building shortly after 11:00 am Bangladesh time to hold talks with the Chief Election Commissioner.
