Bangladesh’s interim government Foreign Affairs Adviser Md Touhid Hossain has said there is no situation in the country that puts Indian officials or their family members at risk. He stated that he finds no clear reason behind the decision to withdraw family members of Indian diplomats from Bangladesh.
Touhid Hossain made the remarks on Wednesday while responding to questions from journalists at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
When asked whether there was any security concern or signal prompting the move to send back family members of Indian diplomats, he said there was no such threat. “There is no concern. And I do not understand what signal is being referred to,” he said, adding that it is entirely India’s internal matter. “They can ask the families of their staff to leave at any time.”
“I cannot find any reason why they are doing this,” the foreign affairs adviser said.
He emphasized that there has not been a single incident in Bangladesh suggesting that Indian officials or their families are in danger. “Such a situation does not exist in Bangladesh,” he said.
Touhid Hossain noted that while Indian authorities may have their own apprehensions or may be attempting to convey a message, he personally could not identify any clear or specific message behind the decision.
