Bangladesh Bank Appoints Md. Mostakur Rahman as 14th Governor

Md. Mostakur Rahman has officially joined Bangladesh Bank as its 14th Governor.

He entered the central bank’s headquarters in Dhaka shortly before 9:45 am (Bangladesh time) on Thursday, where he was welcomed by senior officials.

On Wednesday, the Financial Institutions Division under the Ministry of Finance issued a gazette notification appointing Md. Mostakur Rahman as the new Governor of Bangladesh Bank.

Earlier, on February 25, the government cancelled the remaining tenure of the contractual appointment of former Governor Dr. Ahsan H. Mansur.

According to the official notification, Md. Mostakur Rahman, FCMA, has been appointed Governor for a term of four years from the date of his joining, subject to relinquishing all professional affiliations with other institutions and organizations.

During his tenure, he will receive salary, allowances, and other benefits from Bangladesh Bank in accordance with the terms of the contract signed with the government. The order, issued in the public interest, took immediate effect.

Governor Mostakur Rahman brings more than 33 years of professional experience to the role. A Cost and Management Accountant (CMA), he is widely regarded as one of the country’s most experienced figures in the financial and industrial sectors.

He is recognized as a specialist in corporate finance, exports, economics, institutional governance, and financial management. He earned his Master’s degree in Accounting from the University of Dhaka in 1987.

A Fellow of the Institute of Cost and Management Accountants of Bangladesh (ICMAB), he has also served as a board member of the Chittagong Stock Exchange.

With his extensive background in finance and governance, expectations are high that his leadership will play a significant role in strengthening the country’s central banking operations and financial stability.
