The government is intensely pursuing bilateral, regional, and multilateral diplomatic avenues to ensure a permanent, safe, and sustainable resolution to the Rohingya crisis, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman announced in Parliament today.

Responding to a query from lawmaker Mo. Selim Reza during Wednesday’s question-and-answer session, the Prime Minister reaffirmed his administration's firm commitment to repatriation, stating that the government is working tirelessly to return the forcibly displaced Myanmar nationals to their homeland with dignity.

Drawing on historical precedents, the Prime Minister reminded the House that previous BNP administrations led by Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman in 1978 and Begum Khaleda Zia in 1992 had successfully resolved similar influxes through swift and effective diplomacy. He emphasized that the current government is guided by those same principles to achieve a lasting solution. To keep the crisis at the forefront of the global humanitarian agenda, Dhaka remains in close coordination with international stakeholders, noting recent high-level visits to the Cox's Bazar camps by officials from UNHCR, UN Women, the World Food Programme, and the Turkish Foreign Minister.

Prime Minister Rahman underscored that the core solution to the crisis lies within Myanmar's Rakhine State. To compel Myanmar to create conditions conducive to safe and voluntary return, Bangladesh is actively lobbying for sustained international pressure on the regime. He reiterated Bangladesh's moral support for the legal case filed by The Gambia at the International Court of Justice (ICJ). Furthermore, the government is engaging with regional partners to foster dialogue between the Myanmar junta and the Arakan Army to stabilize Rakhine State, while simultaneously proceeding with Rohingya data verification and third-country resettlement programs.

Addressing camp management and security, the Prime Minister highlighted the active roles of the high-level National Committee led by the Home Minister and the National Task Force co-coordinated by the Foreign Ministry. Acknowledging that Rohingya repatriation is a highly complex and sensitive geopolitical issue, he assured the nation that the government is executing pragmatic, multi-dimensional strategies to maintain law and order within the camps while expediting the repatriation process.
