Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, Amir of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and Leader of the Opposition in the National Parliament, has expressed serious concern over the ongoing situation in the Middle East.

In a statement released on Sunday, Dr. Rahman said, “The growing trend of targeting national leaders and heads of state without regard for international law or recognized legal frameworks is deeply worrying. Such actions set dangerous precedents, weaken global norms, and risk plunging the region into long-term chaos and lawlessness.”

He further warned that military strikes in Iran, followed by missile and drone attacks on neighboring Gulf countries, have heightened fears of regional instability. He emphasized that any action that violates national sovereignty, endangers civilian lives, or undermines regional peace and stability must be unequivocally condemned.

Dr. Rahman expressed serious concern over Israel’s destabilizing actions, noting that such measures escalate tensions, obstruct dialogue, and undermine efforts to establish lasting peace. “These actions threaten the security of the entire region and diminish the prospects for fair, negotiation-based resolution of ongoing conflicts,” he said.

He also criticized Iran’s retaliatory strikes against Gulf and regional countries, describing them as ineffective and counterproductive. “These measures should be stopped immediately. The spread of conflict will only increase civilian suffering and deepen instability across the Muslim world,” Dr. Rahman said.

Highlighting the broader impact, he added, “The people of the Middle East and the global community do not desire another devastating war. They want peace, security, and dignity. Without restraint and effective diplomatic efforts, the wider region faces a serious risk of escalating into broader conflict. This must not be allowed to happen.”

Dr. Rahman concluded by urging all parties to exercise maximum restraint, immediately cease military operations, and return to dialogue and diplomacy, calling it the only effective path to a sustainable solution. He also appealed to the Bangladesh government to take urgent, coordinated measures to ensure the safety of Bangladeshi citizens residing or traveling in the Middle East, including full consular support and protection. “Their safety and welfare must be treated as a national priority. In this crisis, halting bloodshed and protecting regional peace requires unity, prudence, and respect for international law,” he stressed.
