In a decisive move to combat the rising threats of Dengue and Chikungunya, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has announced a nationwide weekly cleanliness campaign starting this Saturday, March 14.

In a statement released on Wednesday (March 11), the Prime Minister urged citizens to take proactive measures, emphasizing that public awareness is the key to preventing these vector-borne diseases. Under the supervision of local administrations, the drive aims to eliminate mosquito breeding grounds across the country. The Prime Minister noted that as Dengue is no longer seasonal, year-round vigilance is essential to protect public health.

The Prime Minister highlighted the importance of keeping surroundings clean, specifically targeting stagnant water in drains, flower pots, and rooftops where Aedes mosquitoes thrive. Aligning with the national health philosophy "Prevention is better than cure," he called upon Members of Parliament and local representatives to lead their communities in this weekly Saturday cleaning initiative. By ensuring that water does not remain stagnant for more than three days in containers like tires or buckets, the PM believes the nation can effectively curb the outbreak before the monsoon peaks.
