Fresh questions have emerged surrounding the death of former Bangladesh Air Force officer Flight Lieutenant (Retd.) K.M. Tahsif Sauri, whose body was recovered from the Turag River. Investigators are trying to determine who chased him and his younger friend, Ahmed Shahriar Reza Dip, in the Mazar Basti area of Tongi—drug dealers or police personnel.

The Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) said Dip told investigators during questioning that while they were in the Mazar Basti area, they spotted two men wearing police uniforms and fled in different directions.

At one point, Tahsif jumped into the Turag River, while Dip managed to escape. However, investigators have not yet been able to verify the accuracy of Dip's account.

PBI Additional Deputy Inspector General Enayet Hossain Mannan said that, based on information provided by Dip, investigators recovered a Suzuki Gixxer SF motorcycle without a number plate from the Mazar Basti area near the Turag River.

The motorcycle is believed to belong to Tahsif. Its ownership will be confirmed after verification with the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA).

Tahsif left his residence in Uttara on Tuesday evening. At 1:35 a.m., he sent a mobile phone message to his mother saying that he would return home. However, he never came back.

On Wednesday afternoon, his body was recovered by river police from the Turag River near Rajabari Ghat in Uttarkhan. His identity was subsequently confirmed through the iPhone found with him.

Before Tahsif went missing, PBI obtained CCTV footage showing him meeting Dip downstairs at his residential building. The footage shows the two exchanging a handshake before leaving on separate motorcycles.

Following this lead, PBI took Dip into custody for questioning from a residence in Mohammadpur on Thursday night.

On Friday, a PBI team accompanied Dip to the Mazar Basti area of Tongi and Rajabari Ghat to inspect the locations.

Investigators said that, according to Dip's account, the two attempted to flee after seeing two individuals dressed in police uniforms. However, authorities are still trying to establish who those individuals were and whether they were actually police personnel.

PBI investigators suspect that Tahsif may have jumped into the river while fleeing either drug dealers or law enforcement officers. However, the exact circumstances surrounding his death remain unclear.

Investigators have also identified inconsistencies in Dip's statements and are working to verify them.

Meanwhile, Tahsif's father, K.M. Enayetul Karim, has rejected the possibility that his son died by suicide. He has called for a fair and thorough investigation to identify those responsible for his son's death.

Investigators have uncovered additional information about Tahsif's movements on the night he went missing. Before heading to the Mazar Basti area of Tongi, he reportedly spent around one and a half hours at a restaurant and bar in Uttara, Dhaka.

He was accompanied by a young woman, described by investigators as his girlfriend, and his junior friend Ahmed Shahriar Reza Dip.

CCTV footage shows that Tahsif and the young woman arrived at Nest Restaurant and Bar in Sector 11 of Uttara at 10:17 p.m. on October 27. They traveled there on a motorcycle.

A short while later, Dip arrived on another motorcycle.

After parking their motorcycles, all three entered the restaurant.

Another CCTV recording shows Tahsif and the young woman standing near the elevator, apparently waiting for Dip. When Dip arrived wearing a helmet, the three went up together in the bar's elevator.

They reportedly spent around one and a half hours at the establishment before leaving on their motorcycles.

According to people familiar with the investigation, Tahsif and Dip later dropped the young woman off at her residence. The two then headed toward the Mazar Basti area of Tongi.

Investigators are now collecting information about Tahsif's movements, transportation routes, and whereabouts at different locations throughout that night to establish a clearer timeline of events.

However, investigators have not yet made any official statement regarding the newly uncovered details.

The circumstances surrounding the former Air Force officer's death remain under investigation.
